Welcome to the 6th Edition of our She Leads Program newsletter! We are thrilled to share the progress made during the 4th quarter. Together with our stakeholders, we organized impactful activities, from training programs to advocacy engagements. Remarkable girls and young women led community dialogues on positive gender norms. We also celebrated International Women’s Day and International Day of Education.
Our collective efforts have resulted in significant strides towards promoting positive social gender norms and empowering girls’ and young women’s voices in decision-making processes. By providing platforms for dialogue and education, we are actively working towards creating a society where girls and young women are valued and able to actively participate in shaping their futures. Welcome to the 5th edition of the she leads journal
During this reporting period, there was increased interaction with GYW from their communities and also continued partner engagements where GYW from GLS actively participated in a number of activities organized by other CSO partners. Furthermore GYW also actively initiated and organized advocacy events in their communities something which explains the impact of the program among GYW.
For example Catherine Nansamba, A GYW advocate organized the commemoration of the International Day of Girl child (IDG) in Entebbe (Lugonjo Community) and sought support from GLS .This was after attending the She Leads Leadership & Advocacy training conducted . The resolutions made during the discussion led to the formulation of the petition which was presented to the Entebbe Division B Local council leaders.
Increased skills in the use of social media advocacy by GYW was witnessed as 8 GYW opened up twitter accounts and actively engaged in advocacy engagements online. This has increased the number of GYW advocates that are actively using these channels to advocate for their rights.
Politically leaders at different levels from community to district level contributed to the She Leads advocacy agenda during 16 Day of Activism, community dialogues and advocacy meetings aimed at shifting negative social gender norms which they say have fueled gender inequalities and violence in communities and homes. This is envisaged in the different commitments made by them.
In this quarter Girls & Young Women from our target communities got to participate in key advocacy platforms organized by other CSO partners, and She Leads consortium Partners at community, national and regional levels. A new group of GYW advocates who were selected from Universities, Secondary Schools and communities were trained. The new GYW Advocates builds on the first cohort of 22 GYW advocates making it now over 55 advocates trained to be part of the social movement advancing GYW rights and gender equality.
Technologically, Social media engagements through twitter, and WhatsApp groups for GYW has continued to be continuous channels to share, learn and discuss issues and opportunities for GYW .As such between 26th September to 7th October,2022 ,GLS organized a two -long week social Media campaign that brought together GYW Advocates from across regional implementing partner.
Empowering girls & young women economically is fundamental as regards achieving an equal world. We shall be launching our 1st economic forum which will support over 80 GYW in diff. capacities to grow their small ventures
We are glad for having had a productive moment with the deputy Lord Mayor Hon @DoreenNyanjura today as we push the agenda of eliminating the negative social gender norms projected towards GYW. We are excited and ready to work with her office.

About GLS: Global Learning for Sustainability (GLS) is a young women-led and inclusive organization founded in 2015 as a life skills education programme to respond to challenges youth face due to lack of life skills in making right and health choices. GLS later redefined its strategy to engage young people in addressing global challenges related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which align to:
SDG 4 – Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education to promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
SDG 5 – Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
SDG 13 – Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

Change with a Mission: To support and ensure that young people especially women and girls have opportunities to acquire global skills, learn from one another, and work together to solve common global challenges.
Job Summary Program/project design, support implementation activities, monitoring of results and learnings as well as refinement of strategic process in program development.
Liaise with the partners to ensure timely, efficient and effective implementation of projects.
Monitor and support partners to ensure that programme and finance commitments are fulfilled through quarterly performance management and support supervision.
Oversee partner capacity development for effective delivery of programs.
Provide overall monthly project management including effective planning, implementation and monitoring of project outcomes.
Conduct monthly and quarterly reviews on the progress of the project in terms of time, budget and quality and address any conflicts/bottlenecks/delays.
Work in close collaboration and consultation with partners in planning, implementation, and reporting of project activities.
Lead project review meetings and documentation of lessons learnt, challenges and new thinking in implementation of projects.
Maintain contacts with relevant government agencies, private sector and other key stakeholders for the two projects and act as link between the actors and the projects.
Ensure efficient use of resources, programme and finance commitments as per the partner contracts are being fulfilled.
Undertake sound tracking of project progress and risk management using appropriate project cycle management tools
Support the partners in development of subsequent years proposals and project documents.
Support and monitor the partners through regular communications and programme visits and ensure that programme and finance commitments as per partner contract are being fulfilled.
Liaise with the Finance and Administration Officer regarding monitoring of budgets and expenditure.
Oversee development, review and submission of high-quality and relevant narrative reports including case stories in PRIMAS and external reports.
Ensure that all scheduled partner and project reports such as progress and financial reports are delivered timely and that they are of good quality.
Support partners to conduct outcome harvesting for effective reporting of change as a result of project interventions. Routinely support partners to adopt result based reporting.
Skills and Abilities

A bachelors degree in development studies, social sciences, community psychology, social work and social administration or equivalent, in humanities or development (or other relevant fields) from a recognized institution.
A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in related field
Experience in program/project implementation
Experience working in a multi-cultural environment
Experience with women Organizations or prior experience working with civil society in Uganda
Knowledge of human rights, Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the Sustainable Development Goals
Experience supporting capacity development within civil society

It’s hard to express gratitude and celebrate achievements in the shortest time of the She Leads life at GLS! Our achievements wont be just what we envisage in the next few years. Being part of She Leads is in itself the greatest achievement so far – a realization and affirmation that She Leads agenda is anchored on Girls and Young women, making them lead and be heard – an agenda that is not only in Uganda but also 9 states all over the continent. More to this, is that youth are being given a center stage in she leads consortium especially the Girls and young women-led organizations to work, learn, and have a voice within a broad spectrum of civil Society Organizations, and Political institutions.
